Visiting wineries in Galicia, in Rías Baixas
San Miguel de Tabagón, O Rosal.
Bodegas Santiago Ruíz
The winery is located in the area of Rosal, inside the Denomination of Origin Rias Baixas. Its 38 hectares of vineyard are made up of the prestigious grape variety called Albariño, as well as other local varieties: Treixadura, Loureiro, Caiño and Godello. Close to the mouth of the river Miño, the vineyard is located in a microclimate which gives its wines their peculiarity. The wines are made from the 5 different types of grapes, all under the same brand.
The old winery, 12 km away from the vineyard, is in a beautiful and colourful 17th century building. The new winery, however, is surrounded by the vineyard. There are many striking features to this bodega: they pay special attention to the quality and the character of their wines, and the label is no less than a map of how to get to the winery. Santiago Ruiz´s daughter drew a sketch of the map, and her father liked it so much he decided to use is as a label for his wines.
