El Ternero belongs to Miranda de Ebro (Burgos), though it is within Rioja Alta, 9 km northwest of Haro. Its origin dates back to the XI century, and it was created as a concession of the King Alfonso VIII to the Cistercian Order.
The owners of the property have always added to the heritage: a XIII century hermitage or the formers pilgrims’ hospital, today a winery. The different religious orders of the nearby Monastery of Santa Maria de Herrero, have left many treasuries to the estate such as exotic trees and a semi-circular parliament by the river. Besides its gardens, vineyards and other crops, the estate is also a game preserve. Finally, there are interesting hiking possibilities and 4 wheel-drive excursions.
